Nevermind, I just read that the brand that I was using is the best for.... a landfill.

I use mostly Taiyo Yuden and even then I stay away from their "value line". It really pays to buy good media. Ritek RiData is also good but again, stay away from the "value" line.

Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim (my current batch of Verbatim use a TY formulation).

With DVDs you get what you pay for.

I used to use Ritek, but I found them not so good now, so I use Tayo Yuden now for all my production.

The only thing reg. TY vs. Ritek is that I found Ritek having a better printsurface, but you can't get it all :)

You could try DVDs that use the TY dyes. Have a look at www.svp.co.uk - they ship to Europe.

My daughter has a Ty Dye t-shirt......

OK, On topic... You can't always depend on what box the discs are in. Recordable DVDs are a commodity and it's not at all unusual to fing Verbatim discs in a TDK box. I don't have it open right now but DVDA has the ability to tell you who manufactured the DVD before you burn it. You can also find a host of freeware that gives the disc ID.

I usually use Ty G02 (8X) discs, burn at 6X, and I haven't delivered a "coaster" yet. At least no one's complained.....

What I like about SVP (aside from the great prices and incredible customer service) is that they list the DYE code for all their DVDs so you have some indication of quality.

But the best way to ensure your get the best quality is to pay a little extra for trusted names.

Many of the cheaper brands are actually B-grade media, and may have quality issues.

I've used Ritek in the past. One batch was excellent, two batches total poo. When you factor in the cost of wasted media due to coasters, you really are better off paying that little extra for reliable brands.

Have a look at the media forum at CD Freaks.
