DVD-R Compatability

What is the best media for compatability with most DVD players?
I recently gave a client their wedding video back and was told that it played for ten minutes then stopped. I certainly can 't tell them that they should go out and buy a newer DVD player. What suggestions if any can anyone offer me in the way of media purchase or best burner. I'm currently burnig at 4x onto an external Sony DRX510-UL burner. Ant suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I use a sony double layer burner that is internal and I use Ritek 8x DVD+R and burn at 4x. I have had one complaint similar to yours since using this media and I made a replacement with a verbatim DVD+R video guard disc. He said that it worked fine. The only problem though is that they are not printable.

From what I read on this forum a great deal of people are using the -R and if there is a complaint they send out a +R.

-R has the best compatability unless you can burn +R with a DVD-ROM booktype (not all burners allow the changing of the booktype, and you have to use software such as Nero to set the booktype or a standalone utility).

The make of the media is also very important. I used to use Ritek, but after getting a batch of 100 that we resulting in high burn failure rates, I switched to a premium media from Taiyo Yuden and I've been happy with the results.

I'm using the Ritek (Ridata) with no problems but I've also heard very good things about the Taiyo Yuden. I was using the Prodisc's but ran into a bad batch in which I could not burn all the way through them and had to return them.
