DVD+R DL Burn Failure (in DVDAS 3.0)

I was a user of Vegas Movie Studio 4.0 and DVD Architect Studio 2.0, however I recently purchased VMS 6.0 and DVDAS 3.0, mostly for the added abilities of keyframing and burning to DVD+R DL discs. Anyway. Earlier today as my first test of the updated software, I rendered approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes of footage in VMS, and sent it through to DVDAS where I designed a main menu page, set up 23 chapter points, and set up a 4-page scene selection menu. After getting the layout exactly the way I wanted it, I spent a good amount of time testing the buttons, making sure that every link went where it was supposed to go. Once I was satisfied, I prepared my project, and clicked the "burn" button. As I had hoped, I was asked to specify a chapter point where the DVD would switch over to the second layer - I was shown several options, and I chose one that I thought would be the most discreet. Then, the burning process began.

Once the burning process had been completed, I was greeted with a window that read:

The command completed without errors.

You can press the details button for further
information.

So good so far. However, upon clicking the "Details" button, the following information was displayed:

'SFMMCX'-(17)
'USB/1394 Devices'-(3)
-'LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-832S VS04'-(0)

By the way, I am using an external LITEON DVD DL burner drive, which I have not had any problems with in the past. I have set DVDAS up for discs of 8.5GB length, and I have made sure the "skip drive database" option is enabled in the options menu (I've had problems with that in the past in the previous version of DVDAS). Anyway, as you can see, "An illegal request was received" during the burn process, even though "The command completed without errors." When I put the completed disc in my DVD player, the DVD seems to work perfectly - the chapter menus navigate correctly, the footage itself plays beautifully - up until the 2nd layer, that is. If I select a chapter from the scene selection menu that happens to be on the 2nd layer, it won't play - the disc whirs for a second but remains on the scene selection menu. Every link to a chapter on the 1st layer works perfectly - but none of the 2nd layer chapters work. If I play the overall footage from the beginning, as soon as it hits the 2nd layer, the disc stops playing and all I see is my DVD player's default background image. For whatever reason, the 2nd layer is totally unplayable.

My question is, has anyone else encountered this problem, and, is there a way to resolve it? Or is it a known issue that Sony will need to address?

Cheers,
Blackadder.

An update:

I just burned my project again, although this time I turned the "skip drive database" option off. This time the 2nd layer was burned and is playable - infact, the entire DVD is playable and all of the menus operate correctly - however now there is another problem. During playback, there are noticeable flaws throughout the entire footage - occasionally, the sound and video will freeze for a second at a time - this happens sometimes a few seconds apart, sometimes up to 30 or so seconds apart. Sadly, it is too noticeable - so it looks like I have another coaster to use now.

Before I add any more coasters to my collection, does anyone have any suggestions on how I might be able to fix this problem?

Cheers,
Blackadder.
