DVD-R drive not supported: What to use to burn???

jdupre wrote on 6/16/2003, 12:09 AM
OK, say I have a DVD burner not supported by DVD Architect. I can create the DVD structure (video_ts and audio_ts directories) with DVD Architrect. But what can I use to burn this structure to a DVD-R disc??? Will any old data DVD burning tool work, like Roxio's EZ CD/DVD creator? Is is just a matter of burning the video_ts and audio_ts directories to a data DVD or is there more to it than that???

By the way, what DVD burner is NOT supported by DVD Architect?

The NEC ND-1100A DVD+RW/R writer being used by Dell (Dell firmware 10GE). I believe the HP DVD 300i is also based on the same NEC drive, but running HP specific firmware.

p.s. I use Nero, and it works fine with DVDA, except for the the "File Allocation Error" that is generated just before the burn. You can tell Nero to ignore the "error" and things seem to burn OK. Using Nero with the above NEC ND-1100A (Dell firmware 10 GE) produces DVD+R disc with Book Type = DVD-ROM, which seems to improve compatibilty with older DVD video players (but this is a bit off topic)

I had the same issue on a computer at the college I work for. I got the ND1100A to work only with TDK media AFTER upgrading the firmware to 10GE. It was a struggle with Dell and NEC to get the latest firmware, but Dell finally pointed me to the correct file.

The point here is that I couldn't burn certain kinds of media even after the upgrade. It only likes the TDK media so far.

Thank you all. My burning was sucessful with Nero. I ignore the file allocation error reported by Nero and the burned disk plays on my DVD player without problem.
