DVD+r or DVD-r?

Hello there. I am brand new to Sony DVDA. Right now I am buring single movie projects. So far, everything has turned out great. Now, I have a 7.6 GB movie fiale (1hr 50 min.) that I would like to burn onto one DVD without losing quality. I tried burning it onto a standard DVD, but the quality was not good. The colours came out slightly wrong and it was blurry. So, unless I want to cut it in half and burn it as two parts on two seperate DVDs (which I would prefer not to do) it seems that the only option left is a DVD9.

Does any body have advise on what brand is better? Is a DVD-r better than a DVD+r? Where do you buy them, and about how much do they run? Is their a bad fail rate?

Thanks so much for any help. As I said, I am very new to this, and have never even thought of using DLs before.

This gets asked a lot.

1) Double-layer discs play well on many, but not all home players. So unless you are just burning them for yourself, close friends and family, you are better off with two discs.
2) +R / -R makes little difference these days. Some very old players will not play +R because of "Book Type" issues. Most of those old players are in the heap by now.
3) The most recommended brands of media in these forums are Tayo Yuden and Verbatim. They seem to be the most reliable.
4) Burning at a slower-than-maximum speed will increase your chances of success.
5) Using the Search function on these forums will lead you to a wealth of information.
