Have you tried using DVD-R?

Or is it that you burner only burns DVD+R?

Thats why I bought the Sony 500, it does +'s and -'s.

The newer DVD players play both, but some of the older ones and "cheaper" ones don't playback.

My daughters Phillips plays +'s, -'s and even SVCD's, were as mine will only playback -'s

Pete,
this is only part of the problem. Players that will play DVD+R will not play ones authored in DVDA despite being able to play DVD+Rs authored in other systems. DVD-Rs authored in DVDA do play OK in them.

Like I said, worked OK on my daughters DVD player.

Am I missing something here?

pete_h,
I have one DVD player that plays anything made in DVDA, no problems.

However two other DVD players that I have a and two Macs (NOT MINE!!!) will not play DVD+Rs authored in DVDA. They will however play DVD+Rs from the Philips DVD recorder. T odate I haven't found anything that will not play DVD-Rs authored in DVDA

Mysterious! Like I said I think it has something to do with the compatibility bits being set (or not) by DVDA.

In another thread, the following answer was given to a very similar question:

"Check the Book Type value set on the DVD+RW disc when burned with DVDA vs when burned with Nero. A DVD-ROM Book Type value generally is more compatible with older DVD video players.

Nero does support user control of the Book Type value, if your DVD+RW/R writer' firmware allows it.

This solved someone's problems with +R compatibility.

Good luck,
-Don

Changing the Book Type setting in Nero worked perfectly. Thank you for the help.
