DVD region code?

I've burnded two short (2 min) DVD's using DVDA, one on a Pioneer DVD-RW and one on a Pioneer DVD-R. I want to play them in a computer. I've tried the DVDs in three computers: two computer won't play them at all (crashes Windows Media Player and the Dell player) and in the third computer, a new DELL Dimension 4600, gives an error that the DVD player has the wrong region code for some such. What would cause these two DVDs to not play?

Are you saying you can't even read them on the same unit you burnt them on? What kind of DVD media are you using? Cheap or defective media might cause something like this.

Yes, none of my four computers will play the DVDs, including the computer I burned it on using a Pioneer A-104.

I burned one on a Pioneer DVD-RW and one on a Pioneer DVD-R.

Could it be that none of the 4 computers have DVD reading software?! One is Win 2000, two are XP Home, and one is XP Pro (with the Pioneer burner).

Surely one of them would come with software to play DVDs since they all have DVD drives.

Sometimes, not always. Check for that. I know that Media Player is advertised to read DVDs, but it will only once 3rd party decoders are installed

You need to install a DVD playing software like PowerDVD or WinDVD.
These programs install the required codecs on your computer. After that Windows Media player will also be able to play the DVD's.

Good to go. I downloaded a free dvd decoder here http://www.cliprex.com/. All is well. Thanks to all for your comments.
