DVD-Rs not recognized by DVD-A 1

Kinda baffled here. I have a Lite-On LDW 451S DVD+/-RW drive with the latest firmware. When I put any flavor of DVD R or RW in it the dics is recognized and they type will appear when I choose properties for the drive and have blank media in it. Drive writes fine to all media, including DVD-R, with things like Roxio.

However, when I try to burn a project with DVD Architect (DVD-A) 1.0d and I get to the dialog where you can choose burn speed, no device is seen as available if a DVD-R is n the drive. Put in either DVD+R or DVD+RW and DVD-A sees the drive and recommends a speed. BTW, I do seem to have to completely restart DVD-A (not the machine) or it won't see the device.

Sure sounds strange to me but I spent a lot of time narrowing it down to this. Any reason why DVD-A wouldn't recognize a DVD-R when trying to burn a Prepared project?

Thanks much.

Wayne

Do a search of the forum for Lite-On and LiteOn. Lots of people have had trouble in DVDA with that brand (and a few others). Your best options are:

1. Try a different brand/type of media. Sometimes if DVD-R doesn't work, DVD+R will.
2. Prepare your projects with DVDA and burn the resulting AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders to disc with another program.
3. Get a different drive.

I have had problems with burning through dvda. in past posts i was told not to use dvda to burn your projects.

try this.

prepare your project through dvda and burn through nero.
when you open nero 6 choose dvd-video and copy all your project files from dvda project to the video_ts, then burn.

this worked fine for me.

Yup, I can burn to DVD+R and DVD+RW with this drive and DVDA. While DVDA can't, I can burn data to this drive and DVD-R media with the Roxio suite.

I've been planning to test the prepare in DVDA and burn in another product. I wonder if native XP Pro can be used to drag and drop the files?

I also assume I could use EZ CD Creator to do the burn.

Thanks for the advice. (Still wish DVDA didn't act this way!)

Do you have the latest update? My LiteOn 411S used to produce these symptoms but the update fixed it.

Not sure which update you mean, but I think I have it all. I still run DVDA 1 and have 1.0d. I updated the LiteOn firmware to the latest for the model just a couple days ago.

Sorry, I meant the latest DVDA2 update - that's what fixed it for the 411S burner.
