DVD-RW burn problem

I have the Sony DRX-500UL rewriteable DVD burner, which burns to all four DVD formats. On my previous Dell computer, using MyDVD (the software which came with the DVD burner), I was able to use rewriteable disks. I now have a new laptop with Vegas Movie Studio + Dvd, and DVD Architect Studio. When I tried to burn a rewriteable DVD disk, the burner spit out my blank disk and I got an error message that the media was incompatible. Might this be an issue with DVD Architect and the DRX-500UL? What other things should I check? Could the problem be between the burner and the laptop?

Have you been able to write to a rewriteable with any other software or is it just DVDAS that's giving problems? It might be worth installing MyDVD and seeing if that works.

Last night I installed MyDVD on my desktop computer to test it - the DVD burner spit out my rewriteable disc again. So it looks like it isn't a problem specific to DVDAS. And I was able to burn a (Fujifilm brand) DVD-R disc successfully. Both DVD software programs appear to recognize the burner. Since the same problem occurs on both my computers with both DVDAS and MyDVD, I'm leaning toward the discs themselves. Does it make sense that one brand wouldn't work while another would? I used Sony DVD-RW before; the ones I've tried now are TDK DVD-RW.

I'm not familiar with the DRX-500UL, but there are reports of compatibility problems on the web.

I hope this doesn't sound too crazy, but... have you double-checked that you are trying to burn a DVD-RW disc, not at CD-RW?

I've caught myself in the store walking around with a package of CD-R's (that I thought I was getting a really good deal on) when I could have sworn I picked up a package of DVD-R's.

So... just one more thing to double check -- that the TDK package or disc definitely says DVD, not CD...

Thanks, everybody, for your suggestions. As it turned out, the problem was the TDK brand. I tried a Sony DVD-RW disc, which I had used successfully in the past, and this time it did burn from DVDAS. You would think all brands of discs would be compatible, but not so.
