DVD-RW not recognized

Hi, I made a movie a year ago and all went well from Movie Studio all the way through. I am at it again this year.

But my Sony DVD writer won't recognize a Sony DVD+RW disc. . . it will recognize a DVD+R. Has anyone had this problem. I did upgrade from Win Xp to the 2nd version.

Has anyone had a problem with DVD+RWs? I asked Sony and they were pretty rude . . . they told me to install all software that didn't come with their writer. I guess that would mean Movie Studio ???

Hi Barb:

I know this won't be much help, but I have read in some forums where some Sony writers have problems recognizing Sony brand discs.

You can try going here http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers and put in your make and model of your writer/player to see if it has problems with certain brands of discs.

Thanks for responding. I did check the site and have even tried other specified brands. The frustrating thing is that I've kept current on Windows, software, and firmware updates. And . . . this dvd writer did work on DVD-RW once upon a time.

One techy told me DVD drives only have a life of 2 - 2 1/2 years, so it may be time to just get a new one. I don't know, but I think that is my only option.
