DVD's not playing on DVD players

While I have successfully made a few videos and put them on CD’ s I on my first attempt to put video movies on a DVD. I am able to put movie on a DVD and play them on my computer, but I can not get the video to play on a DVD player connect to TV. The DVD players that I have attempted to play my DVD’s on are all new within the last year. I have tried DVD-R’s and DVD-RW’s, neither works for me. I need to be able to produce DVD’s that will play a single or multiple videos on a single DVD.
My question is how do produce DVD’s that will play on DVD players, in addition to playing on acomputer? I will sometimes need to produce DVD’s that continually replay. How do I make the videos on DVD continually replay?

Tell us more. Are you using DVDA or DVDAS to burn the project to the DVD, or something else?

I new at this, and what I used to burn the DVD's is a Sony DVD+RWDW-D56A which is installed in Dell Latitude 610 computer.

No, what software? Did you use DVDA, DVDAS or something else? Did you get any errors during the burn process?

First I used Vegas 6 then I used Sony DVD Architect 3.0c. I am not sure what you mean by DVDA or DVDAS. There were no errors durning the burn process. My best results so far accured when I uased DVD Architect 3.0c on DVD-RW. I was able to play the DVD on a Mustek mobil player, which I could do when I burned a DVD from Vegas 6. Hope this helps.

I have now been successful in playing a video on a different new DVD player. The video is on a DVD+RW and will still not play on the DVD players which are less than 2 years old. Any suggestion on what I should do to be able to produce DVD's that play on any DVD player? I recorded the video that worked with Sony DVD Architect 3.0c.

First off, forget about the chance of producing something that will play on every player. It's simply not going to happen with burned media.

DVD-R probably has about 90% compatability with most players, +R has maybe around 80%, +R with a booktype of DVD-ROM has maybe 99% (based on my experience), but the only way to get 100% is to go to replication (using a commercial authoring package like Scenarist).

Players more than 3 years old will have the most issues, but you can still run into problems with newer players (strangly enough, I've run into more issues with expensive new players than cheap new players).

-RW and +RW media isn't nearly as compatable as -R or +R.

With all due respect, you didn't burn a DVD using Vegas. Vegas just won't do it. Either you burned a VCD with Vegas or you burned a DVD with DVD Architect. :)

What brand media are you using? This can make a BIG difference in how many players will play the results of your work. Cheap media often will play in only a few DVD players. Doesn't seem right, but it's true. I have some cheap media I got for free, and it has over 10x the error rate that my top-notch media has (as measured by Nero CD/DVD Speed). It will not play on as many DVD players as my Taiyo Yuden media (good stuff).

You are correct. My recording was a saved video from Vegas, then recorded with a program called Sonic Record Now. The DVDs recorded with Sonic will not play on anything but mycomputer. Then I used Sony's DVD Architect 3.0c, that DVD worked on one out three DVD players that i tried, using a DVD+RW.

Since RecordNow is a multi-purpose burning program, most likely you didn't create a Video DVD. Video DVD's have a very specific layout that must be followed and if you don't follow that layout, then the DVD won't play on a DVD Player.

As I said before RW media has very low compatability with many players, so it's not a surprise to me that 2 out of 3 players wouldn't play it.

Try burning your project using DVD Architect and -R media and I think you'll find better results.

I have stopped using Sonic Record Now, and recorded my video only using Sony's DVD Architect 3.0c and recored it on a DVD+R media. The results are same, it would not play on all 3 DVD players. The players that I am having problems with are Toshiba DVD players model SD-V290. Other DVD's play fine on these units.

Unless you change the booktype on the +R media, -R is going to have better compatability. Keep in mind though that you will still encounter some players that won't play -R either.

If you check the owners manual for your Toshiba player on page 1-7 you'll see that the unit only claims to support DVD-R media (in addition to a commercially stamped disk), so that's why you can't play the +R that you burned.

Thanks, I will not be able to check the Toshiba player until late in the week. Do have a recomdation between using +R or -R DVDs to record on.
