DVD Studio burning problem

Before I had to re-install my notebook recently, I ran WinXP Pro SP2, VideoStudio 4.0a + DVD AS without any problems and could use the built-in MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-820S drive to burn movies on DVD+R and DVD+RW disks. However, today when I tried burning a move on a DVD+RW disk (which was recently erased), DVD AS still thinks that the disk has data on it but went on to still try burning it. After some 10secs, DVD AS would stop burning with this message:

The drive has been reset, most likely by another application or due to a SCSI/IDE configuration problem.

I tried writing some DVD content on the same DVD+RW disk with Sonic RecordNow DX 4.60 and everything worked ok. What is wrong with my DVD AS setting?

Do you have any type of UDF packet formatting software installed? What this software will do is when you insert a blank DVD or DVD RW it will detect this and ask if you want to format the disk to use for storing files.

This type of software periodically checks the state of the DVD drive and can play havoc with programs like DVDAS.

If Sonic RecordNow provides this type of functionality, you need to disable it.

Found the solution to my problem. It was that DVDAS did not like used DVD+RW (or for that matter, any used DVDs) that I used Sonic RecordNow to erase clean.

DVDAS could record onto a new DVD+RW whether I installed or un-installed Sonic RecordNow. However, DVDAS would NOT write onto a DVD+RW that RecordNow had wipe clean. Seems like RecordNow leaves something that DVDAS doesn't like.

I tried using Sonic DLA to format the DVD+RW and after that DVDAS was happy to write onto it. So this leaves me with a next question - Is there a function in DVDAS that will auto-erase content on a DVD+RW prior to writing on it? I will post this question as a separate thread to get a wide audience feedback.
