dvd to Movie Maker

It's been a long time since I did any editing, so I'm playing catch up.

Just finished putting 2 hi-8 video tapes on dvd for a client. Now he decided he would like to use movie maker to make some minor changes - not sure what he has in mind. I know the TS files (4 of them) won't load, and it doesn't like AC3 files. I have the original movie clip, but it had audio problems which I fixed before burning to dvd.

What do I need to do to give him something he can put into movie maker?

Lynn.

What's wrong with you making the changes and burning a new DVD?
If that's not an option for your client, render the original project out as DV-AVI and give that to him.
Your time is worth money so hopefully there will be a charge (more for option 2 as you're giving him the source files) to your client either way you do this.

I tried to explain that it would take me a few minutes to make the change, but he wants to do it himself. He does know it will cost him. Maybe when he screws it up, I can make more money. Thanks.

You can open the DVD video in Vegas by doing the following:

To open up the VOB file chain in Vegas, select the Vegas File / Open menu. Then Navigate to the DVDs VIDEO_TS sub-directory. Type in *.ifo in the dialogs File name input field. Open the VTS_01_0.IFO file. This will completely load the entire DVD Video and Audio streams from all VOB files back into Vegas. As an added bonus, it will include DVD chapter marks as media markers in the imported media.

When this is done, render the video to a .WMV file that Movie Maker can import.

MPEG-2 to WMV and back to MPEG-2 again.
I shudder to think what the final quality will look like :(
OTOH, it may teach the client a lesson and that is "you get what you pay for".
