DVD2 and auto-actions?

RichMacDonald wrote on 4/19/2004, 10:33 AM
Perusing the demo, reading the help file, and reading the new features pdf:

Nowhere can I find support for auto-actions on buttons, i.e., the button triggers automatically upon selection, rather than the two-step, (1) scroll to select, then (2) enter to trigger.

Did I miss it or does DVDA not support it? TIA

Whouldn't it disable you to scroll over the button?

I don't think you can activate the button just by selection. You can activate a button when the time expired.

DVDA2 does not support "auto-actions on buttons".

Yes, the DVD specification allows you to do an action if you just navigate to the button (that's what auto actions are). However, you have to be careful here - some software players will cause the button to highlight when you move the mouse over the button, but that's frequently not the same as actually navigating to the button. To navigate to the button you need to use the simulated DVD keypad.

It's too bad to ready that DVDA 2 doesn't support auto actions, but I guess since I've learned how to do this by editing the VOB's directly, I can still get what I want if I need it (though it's a real pain sometimes to do this with VOBedit - I may have to write a little utility that does what I need).

DVDA 2 DOES allow you to specify a button to be activated after a set number of seconds. Just set the end action of the menu to "Activate Button", timeout to the desired amount of time, and "button" to the button to be pressed.

Hmm. I don't have DVDA handy at the moment so this is thinking out loud. My goal is to implement the "film-strip menu" as shown at the DVDLab tutorial. I have a Vegas project tool to generate the screenshots here. Perhaps I could place an invisible menu and "next-page button" combo on the page, have the menu be selected, give it a zero second timeout, then activate the button to go to the next page. As long as this is at the menu level and not the page level (since I'll have two menu+button combos), maybe it'll work. I'll give it a try when I get some time. Thanks.

The timeout is for the entire menu so, it is not possible to create the film-strip menu in DVDA2.

DVDA2 does not support "auto-actions un buttons": ist this still the same after the last update?

Is this a feature planed to be supported in later versions?

The possibilities in building creative menues are great with auto-actions!

omg please make this feature available!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DVD-LAB can do it already, so it's a must have for DVDA

Anyone wanting to use auto-actions would do well to download (and buy) MenuEdit. Fifteen bucks, people, you can't beat that.

Just design and prepare your files in DVDA, open up the menus in MenuEdit, customize them, then use your favorite burning app to put the final product on a DVD.
