DVDA 1.0a update now available

DVDA 1.0a, build 184 is a bug-fixes only update. Fixes include:

A bug has been fixed that could cause an underrun on some machines when recording to -R and -RW media.

A bug has been fixed that always forced recompression of media with a 16:9 aspect ratio; 16:9 media files will be recompressed only when they are not in a supported format.

A bug has been fixed that could cause an error while erasing DVD+RW discs that were previously burned with some third-party applications.

A bug has been fixed that prevented some discs from playing on some software-based DVD players.

A bug has been fixed that prevented on-screen and front-panel timecode and chapter information from displaying on some DVD players.

In some scenarios, the estimates of media size/space was off. Now fixed.

Prepare Wizard now properly updates when asset settings changed in Optimize DVD dialog.

Perfomance slowdown when there are >10 nested submenus, fixed.

Support for Postscript fonts, and several international text fixes.

Fix made so that text doesn't look "chunky" on some DVD players.

Do we install this over 1.0, or should we uninstall 1.0 first?

I downloaded the pre-release for the update. This appears to be 1.0a build 184 on the help -> about.

Does this mean I dont have to download the public update - saves me a three hour download.

Regards, PAW

sacherjj, I updated without first removing my 1.0 installation, and the updater detected the existing installation and updated it without problem.

You can install 1.0a right over the top of 1.0, no problem.

If you tested the prerelease update, you don't need this update- nothing at all has changed.

Does this version support the Sony external DVD drive - DRX500UL(X)? Version 1 did not "see" my drive at all.

I had a similiar problem with my Sony DRU-500AX. SOFO support guided me to a firmware upgrade for my drive. Your drive is also listed on the website. Check it out...hopefully this helps.

Thanks! I will try tonight. It looks like Sony had a "version" change from when I downloaded this file in February. Maybe it will fix my problem.

Here is how I got the chapters and the 'play all' on the same page:
(FYI, this is in regards to the way that when you would click on a chapter from the Chapter menu, and went back, you'd be taken to the Main menu, and not to the chapter menu where you should be)

1. Set up the main menu with 'play all' choice. (Links to the complete clip)
2. Create the Scene Slection menu (chapter menu)
3. Cut the scene slections (chapters) all at the same time from the scene selection menu.
4. Paste them all into the main menu (they retain links to the chapter points)
5. Arrange them into a decent looking arrangement.

All links you click on will end up right back here, and then there will be no issues.

I know thats a bit odd, and can get complicated with many chapters, but, for few chapters, that is one method

Greg

PS, post ideas / feedback if you can!!!
