DVDA 1 won't burn blank (unformatted) DVD+RWs

After a minute or so "burning lead.in" the process quits and reports burning success. But nothing was written to the disk. Plextools will not format the disk and reperts it "blank, no formatting is needed". However, if I let Nero burn something (anything) to the disk first, DVDA 1 has no trouble rewriting to it later. I've tried with different brands of media but the results were the same.
Is there anything I can do about it?

Burner brand and model? Using the latest release of your version of DVDA, 1.0d?

I've never had to format a DVD-RW for use with DVDA1 or any burning app. And if Nero is just writing files to it, not formating the disc first (if it was formatting it, you'd definitely know it -- it would take longer than just writing a file to it), then it's probably not even a matter of formatting the disc.

Weird.

Using NEC 1100A burner. And yes, I use DVDA 1.d.
Nero IS formatting first (says so, too).
I have no problems with DVD+R media (at least not with quality brands).

The media brand in the latest case is Dysan (made by Phillips). But I have had the same happen with other bands earlier. And there is no variation. It happens every time with blank RW disks. Until they're formatted/burnt to. Then there are no problems any more.
