l've notice that Sony Vegas 5 version (D) has HDV templates.
Will DVDA 2.0b have the macthing DVD Architect template for HD to DVD
with out re-rendering and will it alow us to create progressive scan DVD's ?
"Do you know of a DVD Player that will play back HDV material? AFAIK, all of the HDV formats are outside of the formats allowed in the DVD Specs."
That's what i'm trying to figure out. I heard alot of people with the HD Camcoder are making progressive scan DVD which from what i'm told
has a simluar output.
Then what would be the advantage of vegas 5.0d HD featured template
if you can't take it to DVD? I'm A newbie here so help me out.
I'm no expert but I 've been doing some research on this.
From what I've read, video filmed in HD edited in HD and downconverted to SD (standard Def)and put to DVD looks better than video shot in DV and put to DV.
The DVD spec is the DVD spec and will only play SD video. However, there are DVD players coming out (1 is out now) with divx decoders that will play an HD movie encoded to Divx via the Nero encoder. Also you can distribute HD in the Windows Media HD file format. That has to be played off a PC. Not sure about WMV enabled DVD players.
Vegas 5 has the DVD templates in them because MPG2 file format is not just for DVD. The new HDDVD format will (i believe) us the MPG2 file format.
I believe the new HD DVD format (and Blue Ray as well) will support a number of encoding methods, MPEG-2 being one of them, WM9 (which is now called something else for HD DVD) and others.

I'm also not an expert, but I think you're mixing your terms. You can have progressive scan without HD. And you can have HD without progressive scan. HD basically refers to how many lines make up the video. Progressive scan refers to how those lines are sent to the screen. The opposite of "provessive scan" is "interleave". The oppostite (or, at least, usual counterpart) of "high definition" is "standard definition."
In short, you can have a standard definition DVD with progressive scan. To output such a video from Vegas, use one of the templates denoted by "24p" (the 24 is for the frame rate, the p stands for progressive).
