DVDA-2: 8.5 GB DVD Support?

Does DVDA2 allow you to "Prepare to Disk" such that the total DVD size exceeds the current DVD-5 capacity (4.7 GB), thereby allowing you to burn a Dual Layer (DVD-9/ 8.5 GB) disc using a 3rd party burner application like Nero?

Admittedly, this is a bit of a moot point at the moment as DL DVD+R burners are just entering the market, and DL DVD+R media will be hard to come come by for a couple of months.

p.s. Does anyone know of the issue with Nero thinking DVDA is producing non-compliant DVD-video files because "File size is not a multiple of a logical block size (2 KB)" still occurs with DVDA-2? This was only a Nero warning message, which I have always ignored without any apparent negative consequences.

The file size issues appears to be fixed in DVDA2. I prepared a DVD with DVDA2 and burned it with Nero last week, and did not get the error message.

You could create even a 20GB perpared media "disc" in DVD-A 1.0.
Great for kiosk work and mounting as an NRG (nero virtual disc) in Alcohol 120%.

I recently prepared a 9.4GB image this way and used "shrink" to fit the footage which wasn't core media to a 4.7GB. I may not be able to use it for DL, but I figure it saves me squeezing 90 mins onto a disc and heading towards VHS quality. My footage is interlaced so it won't fit 90 mins as easily as a commercial film, even though I might well try to tweak MainConcept or TMPGEnc.

The duty of Nero would possibly include re-authoring as the layer change rule of replicated media probably holds true for DL DVD+R. This may or may not force recompression.

Read about the layer change by googling for "DVD demystified".

The files I have produced with DVDA 1.0 will only play in a standalone DVD player if I burn them with DVDA. The same Video and Audio_TS files will not play if I burn them with Nero Express or Record Now Max. The DVD player says "This type of disc cannot be played on this DVD player" on some machines and on others it simply won't play at all. With DVDA burning them, they play on everything. Maybe that also means no-one can copy them....lol.

The other issue is that I think when you select 1x burning, DVDA burns at MORE than 1x because when burned at 1x using Nero Express or Record Now Max (despite the fact that they are unplayable) it takes almost twice as long using both of those as it does in DVDA. One time I tried selecting 2x using DVDA and it took THE SAME TIME as 1x. I had posted these issues last year, but got little response except........ "that's impossible".

Sorry to here about you Nero troubles.

I've been using Nero 5.5x and now 6.X sucessfully with DVDA-1 created files and my Dell-branded version of the NEC ND-1100A(+R/RW) burner for about a year now. No DVD-video player compatibility problems as the DVD burner (as instructed by its firmware) always sets the Book Type to "DVD-ROM" when burning DVD +R discs.
