Hello,
Just installed DVD2a on my 4th computer with a Pentium D. Went to burn for the first time and instead of receiving messsage that says "Burn completed successfully" as is the case 500 times before on my other computers, it did not say that but instead "The current operation timed out" and a few other letters etc such as:
'SFMMCX'-(17)
'atapi'-(0)
Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-109 1.00'-(0)
Module mmc.cppLine 1262

I did burn the same MPEG with some "stock software" that came with the computer and it burned, completed and played fine. It is definitley something with DVDA2. Of course updated all Windows, Sony and added the 2.0b patch as usual... any ideas PLEASE
Thank you.... dukerss

DVDA is well known for its inability to work with certain burners, interface types, or certain media types or certain burner/media/interface combinations.

In fairness, it's not entirely DVDA's fault - from all appearences, there's no first or third party conformance tests to make sure burners correctly implement the communication interface (or if such tests do exist, the burner manufacturers don't care). As a result, in order to ensure complete compatability with every burner, the folks engineering DVDA would need to test every single possible combination themselves - a very large job, especially for a product who's primary purpose is to author DVD's - not burn them.

My suggestion? Accept the fact that burning with DVDA doesn't work with your configuration, and use something like Nero to do the actual burn of the project.

If you want, you can formally report the problem to Sony by clicking on the support link at the top of the page - but history seems to suggest that the current situation will not change anytime soon, and certainly won't for 2.0 (it appears that the only release that gets engineering support is the current release - which is 3.0).
