What's wrong with the grid? It can be customized. I'm not sure a "ruler" (ie, something that indicates measurements) would mean a whole lot when you're working with something whose "size" depends completely on the TV or computer that it will be viewed on.
zoom would be nice
What kind of zoom?
BTW, this is primarily a peer support forum -- mostly just DVDA users helping out other DVDA users. If you really want Sony to read and consider your suggestions, you should probably send it to them.
ruler guides like in any layout program would allow elements to be aligned with each other and/or in proportion to each other. dvda's current grid is ok, but if you layout a background in something like photoshop, you don't have the same grid in there that can be used as a reference in dvda. i mean i could change the way that i lay ou and do it all in photoshop, but if its just a background with say solid blocks etc, i'd like the freedom of a movable ruler guide that can moved in line with the background so that i can align buttons and text in dvda.
A zoom so that i can make sure elements on screen are aligned correctly, as much as i'd like to use photoshop to do all the layout and buttons, i doubt i can do a transparent video clip in photoshop.
The point in any post here is to get a response. Not neccessarily from mr sony, but from anyone with any comment. i appreciate your response but i think sony would prefer to put a new feature in that has been discussed by the user group in this forum. the more discussion we have, the less they have and the quicker the feature can be added.
If no one else sees the point in ruler guides and zoom than so be it, but i'm sure this isn't the dumbest post here.

Didn't say your post was dumb. (Believe me, I've seen dumb posts here -- yours doesn't even come close. ;)
Just saying that:
1) The tools for what you want to do are in DVDA, even if they're not the exact tools you're looking for. The Editing toolbar has alignment and sizing tools which let you place and size objects in relation to one another. In addition, the Properties window shows (with the ability to type in new values or increment / decrement the current values) the exact size and position of any object.
2) Fair enough if you want to encourage discussion about new features. I'm simply pointing out that it'd also be a good idea for you to submit your ideas directly to Sony. I obviously have no way of monitering what features from their "suggestion box" have been implemented, but I can tell you this: I've been on this board since before Sony took over Vegas+DVD, and I saw more features added in DVDA 2.0 and 3.0 that were not discussed on this board than features that were. ;-)
Discuss away. I'm just giving my opinion, which I figured was what you wanted people to do.
