DVDA 4.5 complains: mpg plug-in not registered

RCD wrote on 9/10/2007, 9:42 PM
I try to pull an .mpg file in as a button and I get a dialog that says the plug-in needed to read the file .mpg is not registered. The next sentence says to click the Register button to register a plug-in that will read the file. Of course, this does nothing. The cursor changes to a circle with a line through it and nothing happens after that.

I have DVDA 4.0 and these things work perfectly there.

I don't see anything in the Release Notes of manual about this.

Has anyone seen this problem? ...know about a solution?

did you buy vegas 8+dvda 4.5? Old versions let you use your old plugins in the trails, maybe this one doesn't.

EDIT: nevermind. I just put an mpeg-2 & AC3 in to DVD 4.5 & I haven't bought it yet. Worked just fine.

Anything different about this mpg that failed?

If not, I'd normally suggest uninstall/re-install, but not sure what that does to the registration if it's a trial. You might make sure that you're in Windows as Admin, and try either registering the plugin or DVDA -- perhaps the data couldn't get written?

I got off the phone with technical support and, apparently, it's a known problem. In fact, they didn't start the Gold Plan (60 days support) officially because of the status of this problem. They are working on it and will send a workaround via email.

If anyone else encounters this, call Sony. (I tried getting support via email but the phone call was faster.)

This is a function of a bug in some old apps that decided to bite us in the newer apps.

We have a fix and it will be in the 4.5a update. The work-around is it uninstall\reinstall any old versions of Movie Studio. (Especially VMS Platinum 6.0)

Thanks for taking the time and working with us to find this,
