DVDA 4.5 Computer Crash

I've just completed my first video presentation using VEGAS Pro 8.0 and I'm trying to create the DVD using DVDA 4.5; as soon as I press the Make DVD Button my computer freezes. I even tried to use DVDA 4.0 and it does the same thing. I've never had this problem before, I've made numerous DVDs with DVDA in the past without a hitch. I even uninstalled both versions of DVDA and reinstalled just the DVDA 4.5 without any improvement; still hangs up the computer. Any suggestions?

I think this has been talked about in several past threads, I think more often with v.4.0 in Vista.

Have you tried to prepare your DVD to your hard drive or won't it let you get far enough to select that option? Have you tried rendering a simple test to hdd? A single [short] mpg2 video without any menu could/should avoid any encoding and maybe narrow things down to being encoder related if it worked - check the optimization dialog to make sure no re-encoding will take place.

AFAIK the only difference between 4 & 4.5 is official Vista compliance. Still you could try un-installing 4.5 (apparently there's a potential prob. with the mpg2 codec) and after deleting all files/folders and DVDA-related reg keys (including for the encoder) install v.4 to see if that helps. If you've added anything since your last successful DVDA DVD, might look for possible conflicts.

If you are in Vista, Windows install routines vary whether the user access control is on or not... I've seen it make a difference in other apps that were designed for Vista, so it might not hurt to try installation with the control on or off, whichever you didn't do before.

Sorry if you've already done that stuff -- I haven't posted anything really new -- but that's all I can think of at the moment.

Thanks for the help; I was finally able to get a DVD completed but the process was extremely slow and cumbersome. Not sure why, I'm doing everything the way I have before, but the software response time was very dissappointing. I even did some defragmentation to see if that was contributing to the problem, but no improvement. I'm using Windows XP.
I just wish I knew what the computer was doing while I wait for a response when I hit the Make DVD button, it just gives me the hour glass for nearly 5 minuts before the next screen appears. Each subsequent screen did the same things until finally, I was able to begin the actual burn process.
Thanks for the suggestions, I guess I'll keep trying some optimization measures to improve the Make DVD experience.

I think I'd check anti-virus software to make sure it wasn't holding things up -- pull the plug so the PCs not online and disable it?

Microsoft.com has a bunch of utilities from System Internals including a process monitor if you really do want to see what's going on, but we're talking going thru a LOT of data. You might also use one of their apps to point to specific files that are loading -- maybe something's involved that shouldn't be?
