DVDA 6.0?

Does anyone know if Sony is going to do a DVD Architect 6.0 anytime soon? It has bee quite awhile since this program has updated. Hopefully, DVD Architect 6.0 will allow pop-up menus when authoring to Blu-Ray. Encore by Adobe already offers this type of menu option. Who can afford Sony's high end Blu-Ray authoring program? Most businesses can't even afford that.

What problems are you having with BD authoring in DVDA 5 Pro?
Or are you just looking for the enhancements you mentioned?

Not having any problems with current software, just wanna be able to do better more efficient menuing with the Blu-Ray pop-up ability. I keep checking back to the forums to see if there is any planned updates soon, but nothing. I mean we have Vegas 9.0 and Sound Forge has been updated twice since DVD Arcitect 5.0 has come out. Really, need some more advanced authoring tools for Blu-Ray at a more reasonable price. Maybe, Sony should come out with a dummed down version of Blu-Print that can be affordable at the Prosumer level.

Well,

I'd sure like to see it support VC-1 files. That would make my life a lot easier. I'd also like to see it stop recompressing everything I export from Vegas. That would be quite helpful too.

If I had to guess, I'd say we won't see a DVDA 6.0 until we see Vegas 10, which will probably be somewhere between 4rd quarter 2010 and second quarter 2011. (Sony's release schedule has been about 18 months, and Vegas Pro 9 came out this past April.)

Generally, a new version of DVDA only comes out when a new version of Vegas comes out. DVDA 4.5/5.0 kind of threw things out of wack. I suspect that DVDA 5.0 would have come out with Vegas Pro 8, but the Blu-ray component wasn't ready. So Sony released "DVDA 4.5" (a first for DVDA, if not any Sony software) to tide us over, and then the 5.0 free update -- in effect, pairing it with both Vegas Pro 8 and Vegas Pro 9.

Can't see any compelling reason they'd do a standalone DVDA update again, but that's just my guess.

A compelling reason would be to include support as the BluRay spec has changed from when 5.0 was released. Or at least it's more complete now. Again, one of the 3 primary supported formats for BuRay (Mpeg2, AVC, VC-1) is missing from the software. That's a pretty large omission. Especially since programs like Sonic DVDit ProHD, and Adobe Encore already include it.

For those of us who are standardized on Microsoft deliverables (web page, streaming server, etc.) it would be nice to have support for the same codec Warner, New Line, and Universal are using.

That sounds to me like something that would / should be in a point release (assuming they ever add VC-1 support at all), not necessarily require a new version. A new version would be for new features as mentioned in the first post. So I stand by my statement. ;-)

I would love to see a much better support of subtitles in DVDA6 - that gives me the greatest hassle atm. I have already outlined some suggestions last year for that: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?Forum=22&MessageID=618189

Oh yes, and better support for h264 compressed videos for Bluray - I had a lot of troubles with those files when it came to disc creation with DVDA5 stopping with error messages until I let it recompress some of the footage.

HAHA!

So what everyone is REALLY saying is basically screw DVDA 6.0. Fix 5.0 for God's sake!

I'VE GOT MY EYE ON CS5 in April. If they successfully fix their blu-ray support before Sony, I'm jumping ship.
