DVDA and TMPGEnc Problems

First,, I was able to create and burn a DVD using the source file and using the Main Concept MPEG-2 encoder from Vegas 4.0d. When I converted the source avi file to an MPEG-2 file using TMPGEnc, I was able to bring it into DVDA 1.0c and created a menu project with 2 submenus. This duplicated what I had created using the MC CODEC. I tested the DVDA project using Preview and all the scence selections correctly worked. Each jumped to the IN point and played video and audio. I then burned the DVD to DVD-RW. However, playing it back in a Toshiba DVD player, I could play the entire movie but when I selected any scene but the first, it played audio only, no video. Does TMPGEnc work with menus in DVDA? If yes, how do you do it?

FYI: why do I use TMPGEnc? It gives much higher quality on motion than the MC plugin with Vegas.

Thanks, John

UPDATE:

To make a very long story short, the DVD authored in DVD Architect via a TMPGEnc mpeg2 file works fine when played in other DVD players. Selecting menu options plays both audio and video. Summary: did not work on Toshiba SD-K610 DVD player, but works on a Samsung and a CyberHome CH-DVD300 (under $50). The results were for writing to both DVD-RW (Memorex 1X discs) and DVD-R (Printco 1X).

John,

You might want to check your settings: Go to GOP structure, make sure the Output Interval of sequence header is set to 1.

TMPGEnc works fine with DVDA.

SOLVED THE PROBLEM:

DVD Architect is now properly creating DVDs using TMPGEnc mpeg2 file. It was basically an "operator error" caused by my accidently changing one of the settings in the TMPGEnc GOP Structure Tab. The "Output interval of sequence header" was set to zero. I set it to one and created a new mpeg2 output file. I brought this into DVD Architect, created menus, etc., burned the DVD and it plays in all 4 DVD player devices.

I found the problem by trying to use TMPEnc DVD Author. When I tried to bring in the mpeg2 file, DVD Author gave me an error message that stated a video sequence header was needed for every GOP in a standard DVD.

WHEW!!!!
