DVDA can burn rewritables, can it not?

I have trouble writing to DVD+RW on a NEC 1100A.
The process starts by writing lead-in, looking very real to about 70%. Then it picks up speed very fast, ejects the DVD and says: The command completed without errors.
But the resulting DVD is reported by PlexTools (I have a Plextor CD writer) as being unformatted.
I can write the same project to DVD+R without problems.
If the media was wrong I'd have thought DVDA would have reported the fact?

DVD-A seems to be a bit finicky with drives. I am using it at home and at work for making simple DVDs using Pioneer A03/A04/A05 with nary a problem making the inital RW test disk. I could not get it to write to an HP +R/RW consistently but it does write to all bother types of the Sony +/- DRU?? drive.

TorS,

I have been writing to dvd+rw no probs on a hp 200 (? - can't check the model cause its at home...) Tried Sony and TDK discs without a hitch so far...

Me too. I have a HP 200i that takes DVD+R or DVD +RW. DVD-A has no problems with it and I've tried many media brands and all so far (fingers crossed) play fine in my test Pioneer 333 DVD set top. This particular model (an older one) seems capable of playing ANYTHING. I've made regular CD's, SVCD's, XVCD's, some very non standard CD's and like I said DVD+R and DVD+RW and no matter I throw at it, it plays fine.

No problems writing DVD-RW on my Pioneer A05.

I can't imagine the software (DVD-A) would have a problem with RW that wouldn't also show up with R since most, if not all, the differences are handled by the Windows driver (supplied by the drive manufacturer), not the authoring software (i.e., DVD-A).

There is no doubt that DVD-A is meant to burn RW. My NEC 1100A is not listed among the tested writers, though. But it works perfectly with +R media. So why not +RW?
My Nero came free with my Plexwriter (CD) and will only burn on Plextor drives. So at present I have no way of testing projects on RW.

STOP PRESS - PROBLEM SOLVED - I THINK . . .
First DVD-A looked like it would burn but quit undone, reporting "success".
Plextools told me Disc not formatted - no need to erase.
So I go Burn4free and tried to burn the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders. It failed and reported "disc not formatted". I looked everywhere for info on how to format a DVD+RW, found nothing but tried eventually to have Burn4fre erase the disc. Success.
Had Plextools look at it and erase it - successs.
Opened DVD-A and tried to burn the project again. Started off fine, went beyond the point where it used to fail (at about 70% into the burning lead-in) but then it slowed down almost to the point of freezing. Took about 13 minutes from 97 to 99%. I'm waiting for it to finish. I think the machine needs a reboot.
I'll report back later.

I got the same error, but I’m writing to DVD+R on a Pioneer 106d.

DVDa estimated the burn to about 22 min. but after 13.28 min. it finished the burn with ”success”.

With DVDINFOpro I can see that there is burned 2,8 GB as estimated in DVDa but Nero said 2.6 GB.

It’s my first videoburning, so please help me.

PS. Rendering and preparing was all done with success. Videostreamm mpg2, audiostream ac3 with default settings.

Works fine for me.

The only problem is that it wants to write the full disk lead-out, even if only part of the disk was used. This requires a LONG time, but it does end up completing with success.
