DVDA dies when replacing content of picture button

Christian de Godzinsky wrote on 6/30/2008, 2:25 PM
Hi,

I receive the following error (in DVDA 4.5b) when replacing the contents of a picture enabled button. This is, before assigning any link or other controlled behaviour to the button. The picture file isa pong file and the size is 1,8 Mbyte. I can repeat the problem as many times I like.

Anyone? How can I work around this problem?

Here's the dump from the error window:

Sorry to sound ignorant, but what in the world is a pong file? Google wasn't at least initially helpful?

If you mean png, the problem may be in Windows, or the app you used to create the png file... For years Windows & several graphics programs have gotten it wrong - I don't know about XP SP3, but ie7 replaced the Windows file responsible for Windows miss-handling it. Not taking an avi file could be related to whatever format was used to create the avi.

If you can import whatever you want to use for your button onto the Vegas timeline & render to something else, I'd think it would work in DVDA, so that might be a way to check the files themselves since Vegas & DVDA share much the same code. If they work in Vegas but not in DVDA, then maybe uninstall & reinstall?

Hi MPM,

Thank's for your post. "Pong" is just an easier way to pronounce peeengee, and quite commonly used...

Vegas is comfortable with png-files. I never had any trouble even with 8megapixel ones.

I FOUND THE PROBLEM! I can repeatedly kill DVDA 5.0 as many times I like (even DVDA 4.5) by importing files THA USE SCANDINAVIAN LETTERS in the filenames, such as ä, ö å.

This means that DVDA 5 is NOT compatible with filenames that are allowed in windows!!!

SCS - how do you perform the testing??? Ok - I can work around this by renaming a couple hundred of files - but come on - this kind of error is very basic, and proof of bad testing, of no testing at all - at leasr with filenames using other than ASCII characters... Unbelievable.

I have openet a ticket with SCS and hope to get an answer within a reasonable time.
