DVDA DVDs don't play in PowerDVD-XP 4...

DigVid wrote on 4/5/2003, 7:19 AM
Well now there is another problem. It seems that my DVDs produced in DVDA don't play in my PowerDVD-XP 4. If I try to play some of them from HD DVD then I usually get an error message. If I play them from the DVD then It usually freezes up and then causes PowerDVD to stop responding. This is in a WindowsXP SP1 Home OS computer.

Thanks!

I'm now playing a prepared DVD from DVDA from my HD in PowerDVD XP4, and it's working fine. You have the latest update?

DigVid,it is a known bug in PowerDVD-XP 4,dont worry, just uninstall PowerDVD & DONT KEEP YOUR PERSONAL SETTINGS when it asks.Reboot, do a fresh install & give it a go.
Choose DVD on the HD.Also use System Mechanic to remove the leftovers from the previous install of PowerDVD before you do NEW install.
GOOD LUCK.
WORKS FOR ME IN THAT WAY.

Yirm,

Yes, version 1.0a...

AudioIvan,

I uninstalled and reinstalled PowerDVD -> PowerDVD XP4 as advised. Now, I can read the HD DVD just fine, but the Pioneer 2x DVD-RW (made in my Pioneer A05) still locks up the player and I now get an error message saying that the disc must be dirty. Also, the DVD won't play on my other computer with PowerDVD XP4 and its Pioneer 116 DVD player. However, the disc looks clean and plays in my Sony NS-755V standalone.

I'm still thinking that this issue is going to have to resolved from a bug fix via a DVDA future update...

Maybe the media type?
I tried Maxell DVD+R works on my RCA and my Integra.
Tried Verbatim DVD+RW wont work in the older, cheaper RCA but fine in Integra.

I'm using only Pioneer brand DVD-RWs made for my Pioneer A05 (105) burner and have had no problem burning these DVDs in DVDit!PE (although that software (vers 2.5.4) really hasn't been updated to the Pioneer 105's 2x, 4x capabilities yet, either). I also use cheap DVD media (which usually works fine too).

However, I believe the problem to be with DVDA's "Burning" end of the software. I can "Process" the DVD fine in DVDA, but if I truly want it to play on everything (that I think it can), then I must "burn" the "_TS files" (currently) in RecordNow Max 4.5, then, the DVDs play like they should. My feeling is that DVDA isn't completely compatible with my Pioneer A05 (105) as of yet.

You see, what I'm after here is that I would just like to see a bug fix for this in the next update. I am pretty certain I have isolated THIS problem to a bug fix...

FWIW, works for me fine in the A04.

Jeremy,

I'm glad it works for you. However, your A04 came out well before my A05 and the specs for the two are different. So, for you to say it works for you is fine and great. I'm sure it works for a lot of people with even different burners than yours.

However, it doesn't work for my A05 and trust me I have good reason to believe it doesn't work (the way it should) for others with A05s.

Thanks though!

We're not able to repro in PowerDVD with an A05. Can you try completely uninstalling DVD Architect, then reinstall (1.0b) and burn again?

Thanks for the response.

Yes, I can, but the ONLY problem I'm having is that of PowerDVD-XP v4 not being able to read the DVDs burned on DVDA and this is on two different computers. I guess you could say I've been able to duplicate the problem.

Since I can burn the DVDA prepared DVDs in RecordNow Max 4.5 and the resulting DVDs will play in PowerDVD-XP v4 that leads me (anyway) to believe the problem lies someone in DVDAs burning software or maybe a compatibilty issue with RecordNow Max.

I sure would like to be able to do the whole process in DVDA...

I have a amd athlon based system and I had to dump record now max because it conflicted with DVDA worked great after I got rid of Record Now Maybe the athlon based systems have a problem I run xp pro.

Bear,

I tried what you suggested. Took RecordNow Max 4.5 out cleaned registry, uninstalled DVDA 1.0b, cleaned registry and setup files, rebooted, and reinstalled DVDA 1.0b without RNM 4.5.

The result was the same as before - no good.

So, I'm working with Steve now on this problem.

- Thanks!

This is sounding very much like a problem that has happened to me during the last week. My last few burns with DVDA 1.0b have caused my Pioneer 525 to pop up a message on its front panel and irritatingly over the video stating "condition memory". i haven't yet located the manual but it seems reasonable that the player thinks its lens or the DVD is dirty. i cleaned everything, yet the problem persists.

The Warranty for my A04 is up May 2, so i have been frantically trying to pinpoint this problem. It happens on both -R and -RW discs. If i go back to Vegas and encode as M2v (which produces smaller files than .mpg)so that i can author in SpruceUp and burn with RecordNow DX, the condition memory message does not occur.

As i write this i am uninstalling both Vegas (to try and get rid of the stutter on external monitor) and DVD Architect. Both of these programs were upgrades from their initial releases.

i haven't found any way to author in DVD Architect and burn with Record Now. The burning program is looking for an image file.

Before i re-install DVDA 1.0b i may try the initial release, since apart from the lack of a chapter and time display, its burns were ok.

I also have the same problem. DVD's created in DVDA don't play in PowerDVD, but will play in most, but not all stand-alone DVD players. DVD's created in Spruce Up will play virtually everywhere except some Pioneer stand-alones, using AC3 encoding. I am trying to get around the DVDA burn by doing the Prepare DVD function, then using the VIDEO_TS files created by the Prepare DVD to burn in Nero. That's giving me errors, and I've seen other people have the same problems. Something about 2K block size, and a file allocation error.

I have a similar problem.
With the dvd that works in other players, when I play them in powerdvd it start
displays the menu ,
if I click on a button linking to a video it works fine,
but if I click on a button linking to another menu it stops . (doesn't crash, but the result is just like if I pressed stop)

I had a similar problem with dvd generated by dvd impression pro. it was stopping when switching from one title to the next . (menu was working fine though)
Is it something special that dvd authoring softwares are using , that PDVD can't understand ?
like an unsupported kind of end action or something ?

Same here!!! Whatever OS we use, from 98SE to XP Pro, Power DVD XP 4 doesn't play DVDA's AC3 encoded files/DVD's. No problem to play them on a bunch of different Settop Players, Sony or even older Panasonic's.
I wrote Cyberlink but have no answer yet. PowerDVD has no problem with PCM encoded files by Ulead's DVDWS. Why not giving us a choice for PCM encoding in DVDA?

"Why not giving us a choice for PCM encoding in DVDA"

This is an option- check the optimize window.
fdohmann wrote on 9/19/2003, 5:30 PM
Since CyberLink didn't answer, done so! But one of the older Panasonic at one of our cable Head Ends requires Dolby AC3 not to hick-up, which means authoring both PCM and AC3! Waste of Time!
