DVDA Help: DVD not playing on XBox360

NOTE: I posted this question on the DVDA Forum as well... but I wasn't sure if VV users could comment as well. Thanks.

I have a client who can play her DVD (prepared in DVDA 4 and burned with Nero 9) on a consumer DVD player, but it gets 'stuck' at certain spots when she plays it in her XBox360 AND her PC DVD-ROM drive using Windows Media Player. I gave her three disks with her order and all of them have this 'problem.'

Any thoughts?

For anyone interested... here is the dialogue between the client and myself (read from bottom up):

Hi Dave,

Just wanted to let you know that the DVDs play on a consumer DVD player! If you figure out any reason why they wouldn't play on an Xbox or computer (I tried them on a computer with a working DVD player and they got stuck in the same places as they got stuck on the Xbox), please let me know, especially if there is a way to fix it, as I will otherwise have to watch at a friend's house or purchase a DVD player.

Thanks,
Katie

Katie,

I'm glad you got the DVDs and you like what you see so far! Unfortunately, I have not encountered anything like you describe. All three disks went through data integrity checks and video playback tests prior to shipment. Only premium quality DVD disks are used for burning. I even popped them all into my home DVD player and shuttled through the chapters; they all played back beautifully on my Panasonic DVD player. I have not changed my process for DVD creation, nor changed the type of disks I use, for years... and no other bride has had issues.

This is really odd... and I will help you out! Question... do the DVDs 'get stuck or skip' at the same spot? Or does it do it randomly?

My suggestion is to play the disks on a consumer style DVD player hooked to your TV (eliminate the XBox and PC issues).

Please keep me posted.

Dave

Hi Dave,

I was just about to write you! I did receive the DVDs and LOVE what I have been able to see so far! however, I've had some problems viewing the DVDs...we have an XBox for our DVD player and we've never had problems viewing either store-bought DVDs or homemade/burned DVDs. However, on all 3 copies of the DVDs you sent there are parts where the DVD gets stuck or skips and the XBox says "trying to read media." Do you have any suggestions for me? I also tried playing it on my computer but my computer has been having difficulty reading any DVDs even though we've reinstalled windows media player several times. I really want to be able to view the whole thing! I don't think it's the Xbox but perhaps you have encountered this before?

Thanks,
Katie

Probably media -- my guess anyway. Tons of info out there on good vs. bad brands, plus some feel it best to burn @ 1/2 rated media speed. All sorts of compatibility prob too, between players/burners & discs, & not all burners are created equal by any means. Check out the CDFreak, imgburn, & videohelp sites/forums. Generally go Verbatim.

What type of blanks are you using? I've had this happen to me, and it was down to a brand name blank changing the source of their discs. If you're not using Taiyo Yuden branded discs, check with DVD Identifier as to their origin and whether that has changed.

Discs usually play more reliably in ROM drives, so that's a bit odd, but it does explain why there's an issue with the XBox, since it also uses a PC-type drive.

By-the-way, not that it matters but in the interests of professionalism, it's "disc" with a "C" not "disk" with a "K". :-)
