DVDA, HP DVD 200i and +R's.......

Hi everyone,

Got an HP DVD 200i for Christmas last year and am JUST getting around to using it (long story, but that's best left in another forum:))

Anyway, using DVDA I can get a good burn on any make of DVD +RW's, but the unit errors out halfway or so through any burn when using +R discs from several different manufacturers. It says it's a focus servo error.

HP tech support 1st said it was firmware (I had already upgraded), then said only certain media was supported (I used a supposted media - still it errored out). They then had me burn a data file onto a +R using HP's included burning/copying software which worked fine. They suspect DVDA is the problem.

This drive is on the supported list for DVDA - what is the problem? Anyone have any idea????

Thanks,
Jerry

I have a HP 220i and have no problems making DVD +R. Its probably the media. You maybe just got a bad batch. It isn't DVD-A. I can't say exactly how many DVD's I've burned withDVD-A and that drive, its probably more than 50 and except for a couple that were for sure bad media, no problems.

So far I've used HP, Fuji, Verbatium and Ritec media with no problems.

Sounds like HP tech is just guessing. Having you do a data burn isn't remotely the same as burning a DVD for playing in a DVD set top.

I also have an HP200i and have had no issues.

I remember seeing a servo error one time when the burner (lens) needed cleaning.

That is the only time I ever got that error. While it may not be "dirty," it can get dusty.

I HAD an HP 200i which worked with no problems. I now use the HP 300i, and again, never had a problem.

I'm using HP, VERBATIM, and TDK disks.

How does one remove the dust?

Thanks,
Jerry

I use those high powered "air in a can" sprays.
