DVDA HP200i bug with DVD+RWs!!!!!

zstevek wrote on 2/19/2003, 6:39 PM
I have successfully burnt DVDs using DVDA on DVD+R media, BUT the first time I tried a DVD+RW the drive sounded like it was going to explode! It went to full RPMs at around 2% complete and never stopped! DVDA was frozen at that point in time as well as my DVD+RW drive until I had to shut of my PC!

Has anyone else had this problem with his or her HP200i Burner?

I haven't seen this behavior. But I've seen a DIFFERENT weirdness on my 200i.

If I burn a DVD+RW that is new, no problem. However, SOMETIMES when the media has been burned already, the burn portion of DVD Architect will start the burn, then tell me the disc has data and it will be overwritten. I click OK, it tries to burn, then it says all commands have been completed. Yet nothing has been burned!! The DVD still plays whatever was on it previously just fine.

"then tell me the disc has data and it will be overwritten."

That is exactly what it told me before I burnt (or attempted to) the DVD+RW. I have used this disc with the software that came with my burner (HP RecordNow) before I erased it to use on my DVDA project.

It must be a bug when it comes to overwriting the DVD+RW.

OK, and now I've twice had the problem with overwriting data. I used Nero instead with no problem

A similar bug was mentioned earlier in this forum. This fix was to get the latest 1.51 firmware update from HP. Also, you might need to do a quick-erase (or two) of the disk before using it in DVDA.

Get this, I thought I was burning onto DVD+RW w/HP200i but it was just the old VOB files re-burning. My first burn on a "virgin" +RW was successful. I then prepared a different project and that burn was successful. I then tried to make subsequent burns of the same project but found no change. It was when I accidentally deleted the VOB files that I realized that I had to re-prepare my mpeg-2 file in DVD-A in order for my changes to make it to disc. So, really, all my +RW burns have been excellent, just my grasp of the situation was flawed. Is the bug in our heads or does my HP200i work w/+RW's and I'm just lucky? Maybe my experience doesn't apply to the thread but is everyone trying to re-burn the same project or different projects? My bug was in my head.

Dvdfool,

The latest firmware revision I have is 1.36 and that is all that is listed when I go to hp's site. Where did you get 1.51?

I just checked. Firmware 1.51 is at the hp site.

I just searched for drivers for the dvd200i. Then clicked on the Windows XP drivers URL.

Here's the url:

Thanks dvdfool,

I had a "favorites" link to the hp drivers URL from a few months ago. The web page I kept seeing was never updated with the new firmware.

I'm up to date with 1.51 now.

I upgraded to firmware 1.51 and the problem still exists.
