DVDA reads marker points as chapters in DVDA....

....despite the fact that I un-checked the "save markers with file" option in the render as MPEG2 in Vegas!

Is this normal? Have I overlooked an option somewhere? It was quite amusing playing back a 8 minute video on stand-alone dvd player and seeing 20 chapters listed in the vid! - I had no intention of saving chapters from Vegas or indeed asked DVDA to set any either...

Anyone?

Thanks,

Paul

The markers are coming from somewhere- you can delete them without rerendering the files in either DVDA or the Vegas trimmer.

If you truly unchecked the "save markers with file" option, then you should NOT have seen chapter point. However, I can see how this MIGHT occur if you have rendered multiple times and, at least once, had the option checked. The markers are saved in a separate file so, if you had rendered with the option checked, that file would be created. A subsequent render with the option unchecked might not delete the extra file thereby showing the markers from the previous render.

I will check later but I am positive I only did one render to MPEG2 on the file...I was burning a test DVDRW to view on a TV set....It was in fact the very first time I rendered that particular project and rendered it directly to MPEG2 PAL DVDA template and then the audio to AC3 5.1 surround: It is my first project in surround so was eager to check the result on home 5.1 system, hence the DVDRW.

The reason I remember un-checking the "save markers with file" option is because in a previous project I stumbled across a chapter setting in the final video on DVD when I had not intentional intended to have one (but thought I probably had overlooked the unchecking marker retention in the render) SO I specifically un-checked the option on this project. The preparing dvd process and burning went without a hitch: no re-rendering of anything, so I was v. happy. I will however double check on this new project.

I will try with a new project an see if it reproduces the result!

Thanks for the suggestions!

Regards,

Paul.

PS: SonicEPM, how can I delete them in Vegas or DVDA without re-render? is it as simple as opening the file, selecting, deleting and closing? Thanks again for the tip!

PPS: BTW, when I say listed, I mean the chapters showed up on the dvd player's display. ie. I did not have a chapter menu created etc...The dvd was a simple tempate dvd menu with the single file for testing purposes. Just wanted to clarify in case my initial post was not clear enough! Thanks again!

There are a few ways.

1) You could rename the MPEG file so the name no longer matches the marker file - then they can't load.
2) You could delete the marker file
3) You can go to the timeline in DVDA and manually delete all the markers

Any of these should get the job done.

Thanks for that Edward!

Perhaps you saved with a name you had used previously. When I'm just goofing around to try out a new feature, I'd probably use "test.mpg" for example. Later, if I was doing the same thing, I might render another "test.mpg" that would subsequently load the old marker file without my realizing it.
