I hate to sound harsh, but SONY hasn't released DVDAS 4 yet. I would say that you've been playing with it at your own risk and you get what you deserve for trying to use unreleased/unsupported software.

Perhaps if you completely uninstall both versions, use RegEdit to remove all references to both versions, make sure that all installation directories are compeltely removed, then maybe you can reinstall version 3 and register it.

Chienworks, VMS 7 and DVDA 4 are apparently available now in retail channels. Someone reported seeing them on the shelf at Fry's a couple days ago. Of course, its possible that retailers aren't supposed to put them on the shelf yet, and it was a mistake by whoever was stocking the store.

(Of course, there's also the possiblity that some really smart guy with the initials "KC" could be a beta tester or something, and might know when the "official" release date is?)

As far as losing activation codes -- I had a similar problem when I upgraded my VMS 4 to VMS 6 Platinum last year. I left VMS 4 installed on my computer, and added VMS 6. However, when I went to run VMS 4 (to compare feature differences with VMS 6), it acted like an unregistered version -- wanted my VMS 4 activation code, or would run as a trial. I don' t remember if I entered the VMS4 code, or just left it as a trial. I was thinking this happened another time as well -- like when I installed an update to VMS6 -- that it wanted the activation code again. Don't remember for certain, though.

PS: I downloaded the trial also, but onto a different computer that did not have VMS installed, so my VMS 6 and my VMS 7 trial are on two different computers. Didn't have the issue you mention this time around.

Kelly, with all due respect,DVDA Studio 4 is a Trial, supposely , that I downloaded from SMS site. If, Sony has not yet released DVDA S 4, how come is available for D/L from their own site?VMS 7 is available too but everything went smooth with it. Is running in my machine pretty good. No need to uninstall DVDA S 3, only 4. Entered my serial# and everything is back to normal. DVDA S3 is working again. Thanks Guys !!!

Well, as has been pointed out in several other threads, SONY has not announced the trial yet. Someone found a download page that lists it, but the page is inconsistant and confusing and appears to be unfinished. There are also no links from the rest of the site to that page. That would indicate to me that it has not been announced and that someone found a way to get it before they were supposed to.

Ahhhh, I see now, Kelly. You're right that the trial for VMS 7 is not posted on the normal "Trials and Demos" download page. That page still links to the 6.0b trial. I just followed the link posted in the forum (to get the 7.0a Trial) and didn't realize it wasn't really public yet.

The update (not the trial) for VMS 7.0a is on the normal Updates page, listed simply as "Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Update", without mentioning it is for 7.0a. I spotted that Friday night, without using any m4d haxor sk1llz of any kind.

I guess we'll wait a bit longer for things to become official, and I'll refrain from posting any comments (about VMS 7) until then.

Hey, Look!

The VMS 7.0 trial *is* now listed on the official Sony "Trials and Demos" web page:

Then what is 7.0a on the updates page?
Tim L wrote on 9/5/2006, 1:50 PM
I expect that 7.0a on the updates page is an update to the actual VMS program (ie the real thing, not the trial version).

The CD in the purchased package probably has version 7.0 on it, and there is already a 7.0a update available for download.

(The release notes probably explain the changes.)

I also see that VMS Platinum 7.0 is now available for online purchase on the Sony website:

Edit:
And an official Press Release (dated Monday, August 21???)

for JMES

I just un-installed the previous 'trial' version - which was asking for a serial number - and downloaded and installed the version now in the download area, and all is well. There must have been something premature about the previous trial download.
