DVDA vs. Vegas Encoding

Is there a quality difference between DVD-A mpeg-2 encoding compared with Vegas? Assuming same content (.avi file) and same bitrate...

Certainly there are more options in Vegas, but what settings is DVDA using?

I see how to change max and min bitrates in Vegas but not in DVDA - does it use the same default settings as Vegas (like 192,000 and 8,000,000 for min & max bitrates)?

I understand there are workflow considerations as well which would encourage using one or the other, but I'm primarily interested in quality.

Both application share the same encoder. So if you pick the MC encoder in Vegas to make your MPEG-2 or bring in a AVI and let DVD-A convert it to a MPEG-2, its getting done with the same encoder.

Thanks - but what about the settings? Can only set avg bitrate in DVDA (as far as I can tell) but you have maximum etc. settings in Vegas - what max does DVDA use? (I think that's the key setting aside from avg)

You can change the settings in Vegas from the custom button. Pick Mpeg-2 and the NTSC Template, then click on custom, then the video tab you'll see. AFAIK, you don't have that many options in DVD-A.
