DVDA wont play .ac3 media

I am new to rendering ac3 / 5.1

I have done a short test and rendered my project using Format "Dolby Digital AC3 Studio" and Template "5.1 Surround DVD" as per the manual.

MS 14 renders the .ac3 file no worries. However, when I "add Media" to DVDA, and save as .dar, I get the soundtrack, but no Video. DVDA won't seem to playback the video. It seems like the .ac3 file is only AUDIO ? Is that right?

If so, what project settings should I use to render a project for DVD with AC3 5.1 soundtrack ?

I am trying to create a compilation of music DVD tracks for my home use from captured tracks from music dvd's.

Any help would be appreciated.

Did you render an MPEG file for the video? AC3 is audio only. Are you trying to make an audio only DVD?

If you use MS14 you have not Dolby 5.1 surround and stereo AC-3 encoding.
MS 14 Platinum has it and you 'll have to use for the video one of these templates by choosing Make Movie/Save it to my harddrive/Advanced Options

and for the audio

If you gave both the same name and location, DVDA will import both by choosing one of them.

Cornico, I do have Platinum... sorry for not making it clear... but being new I have been a bit confused.

I sort of understand what you  are saying. I will give it a go. Thanks for all your help.

Cornico, I tried what you said, but I am just wondering if I am trying to do the impossible? I am capturing tracks off a DVD or Blu Ray to make a compilation... capturing via HDMI from a Blu Ray player to my Hauppauge Collosus 2 capture card which supports 5.1. I can get Front L & R, Centre & LFE channels onto my timeline in MS 14 Pltn, and rendered 2 files like you said and made a DVD in Architect, but there is no Rear Channel and although my amp is saying 5.1 is being input from the DVD, there is no signal on the rears. Also, the signal on the Front L & R seem to be mixed with the centre as well. It does not seem to be true 5.1. I read in the help that the 5.1 feratures of Vegas Movie Studio are for capturing from a Cam Corder... maybe not from a DVD or Blu Ray player via HDMI ???

Do you ( or anyone else) know about this.?

I have no experience with that old stuff anymore for the last 7 years but did you use the right project settings in DVDA?
