DVDA2 Bug with ac3 import

DJPadre wrote on 11/4/2004, 8:14 AM
i think this has been bought up before.. i dunno..
Im using the latest update dvda2b 130.

basically im tryin to import an ac3 stream into DVDA2 and one fo 2 things happen.. .

1) the import works ok with the video clip, its all synced and "building peaks" happens... BUT the ac3 has these terrible clipped peaks in sporadic areas on the file.
Playback of the ac3 file is fine and glitch free in Power DVD and every other ac3 readable program.. but i can physically SEE the clipping of teh wave in the timeline within dvda2.

secondly.. i import the ac3... but when i go to hit play, dvda2 just vanishes, shuts down and everything is lost.. no recovery or nothing.. just dead..

so whats the story with this?? I recall there was a fix, but since i updatred to this new version, it seems its come back..

A while back i had this problem, and then it went away after an update.. i updated to this one as a new install (had to clean the system) and now the problem is back.

Any assistance is appreciated.. ive reverted back to using dvda1.. and horror of horrors, Encore..

ok, nice of Sony techies to respond..

ive gotten in touch with New Magic who distribute this (i work closely with them as theyre my actual supplier) and he believes it could be coz of the old softencoder which was installed..

now I recently had the Sonic FO=oundry Soft Encoder instaled for Vegas 4, and thought thta to be the inital problem... so i uninstalled it... Vegas still lets me work in surround mode...

now.. i went back and rendered the same ac3 file with the stock settings.. i didnt chance anything for 2.0

Ive put that into architect2 and it works without distortion... but thats not even half of it..
As the volume was low, i thought id up the Normalisation.
Forget it.. all i got was fluctuating audio peaks with varying gains in my volume output.

another issue..
basically, if i try to set a Dolby Stereo surround encode metadata stream to it, then import that ac3 into dvda2, u can forget it too, i just get glitches, zips and pops.. hell, u can even SEE the distortions in the wave display of the audio track.
BUT import that SAME file to dvda, and its perfect as it should be.

So whats the deal here?? Whats going on?? im really getting frustrated supporting and selling this product when it wont do what its supposed to..
Ive never needed to resort to other programs apart from dvda1 (which i know is solid and doesnt want to change anything, as oppsed to dvda2 which has many issues with existing/conformed comliant files)
but it comes a time when an investment must start to pay itself off, and to this date, i fail to see this happening with dvda2... sure its got some great concepts and additional features and a much faster interface than anything ive come across, but this forum seems to be litterd with people having issues which could easily be resolved.
SO.......
even though ive removed the old ac3 softencoder, im gettin these distortions.
So can someone please explain to me why the EXACT SAME FILES created in Vegas 5 work fine in DVDA1, but Glitch on DVDA2

ive got screen grabs of this anomoly if that helps.. hell i can even burn the project files to a dvd and send it... right now im ropable considering the amount of poeple i have sold this product to and the amount of times ive had to ditch dvda2 coz of this problem...

Some help would be nice..

If you want formal support from the folks at Sony you need to click on the support button and then go to email or phone support. This forum isn't a formal support mechanism.
