DVDA4 problem

Hi.
I always created my mpeg2 files with Vegas (DVD PAL) and then authored and burned with Ulead DVD Workshop... everything OK, always. Now I tried to use DVDA4 and have problems: first of all I don't understand why mpeg2 files coming from vegas have to be re-rendered in DVDA (audio only)!?? On the end of the procedure I burn the disc and everything looks perfect. But the DVD I get is playing only on the PC and not with the stand alone DVD player!!!? Any suggestions please?

If you aren't rendering with a DVDA template, and then rendering your audio as a seperate step/file, then DVDA is probably re-rendering your audio from mpeg-1 (multiplexed in the video stream) into AC3 or PCM depending on your project properties. The workflow in DVDA has always been to use a DVDA template for rendering video, use an appropriate audio template for rendering audio into a seperate file.

As to why the player isn't playing, there are numerous possibilities. Is this the same player which has previously played DVDA prepared projects in the past or is it a new LG or Lite-On player? What else, if anything has changed?

Is the palyer I always used to play my DVD Workshop projects (not DVDA prepared projects)! This is my first project with DVDA....!! And already have problems!! I tried again using a Mpeg2 file for video (DVDA compliant) and AC-3 file for audio, both created with Vegas, but same result... the DVD player says "Unknown disc"!!?

Step 1 - take a deep breath. Burning media is more of an art than a science. Some DVD players are very picky and some aren't. Some burning programs will do certain things during the burn to try and address potential issues, some won't.

Ok, we're going to need some more details. Are you sure you are using the same type of media that you were previously? For example, most players will play -R, a smaller set will play +R, so if you accidentally switched from -R to +R you might see this with your player. If you try the media you are currently using in DVDA with Workshop do you get the same issue?

How large is your project? Many DVD players expect to see at least 1GB of data on the DVD, and if they don't, they won't play the disk. DVDA will usually burn a lead-out to accomodate this, but it's possible that it isn't. If your project is smaller than 1GB, try bringing additional material into your project until you hit 1GB.

Have you tried playing the DVDA burned disk on other DVD players (other than your PC and the one it doesn't work on)?

What make is your DVD player? There's a known issue with the content created by DVDA with either LG or Lite-On standalone players. Search this forum for "pgcedit" for more info about this issue.
