Hard to tell.
Not every DVD player will play -R or +R discs, but it is rare these days to find one that won't play either.
Some players are more fussy about the quality of the disc... poorer discs are harder to read.

I'd try your disc in some other DVD players and see if it works, also consider trying to burn on a different brand of DVD-R.
