I've used the AG-DVX100 in 24PA mode, imported in to Vegas 4 (having Vegas automatically remove pulldown), edited on a 24P timeline (all FX are 24P too), output to tape (having Vegas insert 2-3 pulldown), and output to DVD too (via DVD Architect, in both progressive and having Vegas insert 2-3 pulldown).

I used 2-3-3-2 pulldown in Vegas for any pre-renders.

Thanks Zippy. Some quick questions...How did you like the camera? Did it meet your expectations? How would you compare it to the XL1s (optics, user settings, focus, iris control)?

In that price range it can't be beat---The only comparable cameras are the XL1S, VX2000 and the PD-150--they don't do 24fps so that would probably rule them out. You wll love the camera--

I owned the XL1 (not XL1s) as well. I like the DVX100 much more. Some of the main reasons are the 24p modes, detail and other adjustments, XLR inputs (without buying adapters like XL1), large LCD screen, S-Video & RCA stereo audio and video INPUTS and outputs (XL1 didn't allow INPUT this way), 48V phantom power, cine-like gamma, time lapse recording . No comparison if you want to do narrative projects. I"m sure I have other good things to say about it, but I just can't remember them now.

Thanks guys.. my mind is certainly made up. My biggest complaint with the XL1 and 1s is the servo controlled zoom and focus rings.. impossible to hold focus through a tracking zoom.

Tracking focus is one complaint people have with the dvx100. Its focus ring has no stops. Someone makes an attachment that clamps over the focus ring that adds stops. It even has gear teeth that will connect to a focus drive if you have that.

Sorry, I forgot the manufacturer. I think I read about it in the dvx100 forum on creative cow. If you go there and read back through the posts it should answer any questions you have.

I believe Century Optics makes the attachment you're talking about it -- saw a blurb (ad) in American Cinematographer recently.

I have a snowstorm-tested DVX100. You'll also find it is properly hard-wired for superior sound.

Played with the PAL version of the camera at IBC with fous follow attachments. Several people make these, one I looked at works out at about 800 Euro but does a good job. If you plan on shooting 16:9 apart from the adaptor optics factor in a decent matt box. In total add 50% at least to the cost of the camera.

I know that starts to sound like a lot of money but you're still only talking 10% of the next best thing.
