DVX100 Capture Problem

Stumbly wrote on 4/12/2003, 3:19 PM
Hi everyone,
When batch capturing from the Panasonic DVX100p, about 50% of the time the Vegas capture utility will start recording, but the camera itself will remain on "pause." The capture utility will keep ticking away happily, going way past the original "capture duration" in the capture progress window, even though nothing is being recorded. The settings are pretty much at default for capture, is there anything I can tweak to eliminate this problem, or is babysitting batch captures the norm? I'm using a fresh install of 4.0b on a fresh install of XP SP1. Could it have something to do with my firewire connection or my hard drive? It really seems like there's just a problem with the device control. I'd really appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Mike

We'll try and get a repro here at SOFO, thanks!

same problem here, i'm using a panasonic GS1!
in batch capture the cam rewinds the tape and then sometimes hangs just before playing the clip.

Ps. manually pressing play on the device makes the capture continue.
Had a JVC dvl-30e before the new panasonic came, used the same software (4.0b) and never had a problem!

probably a device control problem if you ask me.

I park it on a video clip and then record all clips from
there. If it starts at the beginning of a tape I
always have a problem.

I have the same problem when batch-capturing on my little Panasonic NV-DS11. It's as if Vegas Capture has issued the PLAY command, but about a third of the time (random) my camcorder will just stay paused, and Vegas will just wait and wait (it says it is capturing, but the progress bar does not move and the hard drive is not being accessed). As with videoman69, if I hit play manually on my camcorder, all is well and Vegas captures the clip correctly and then proceeds to the next shot. So there is a work around, but it's a pain to have to babysit the batch capture process.

And, annoyingly, it mostly only happens when I walk away from the PC while it's capturing - almost never when I'm sitting there watching it! :-) Murphy's Law I guess.

Perhaps it's a Panasonic thing? Some slight incompatibility? Thanks in advance for any help or fixes.

Thanks for the details, folks. We believe we have fixed this problem, and it will be in the forthcoming 4.0c update.
