DXC-D50 Adaptive Highlight Control

I recently picked up a Sony Camera, the DXC-D50. I have it set to dock with both a DSR1 DV Cam, and a PVV-3 Beta back. My question is about one of it's functions, Adaptive Highlight Control.

In it's brochure, this is a very dramatic function. It shows a room with windows, and the typical over exposure that results. With Adaptive Highlight Control turned on, however, Sony claims it creates multiple Knee points/slopes, and can deal with the windows separately from the room. The "After" picture are very impressive.

Sounds great, but I can't make it work. The operations manual only describes how to turn it on in the menu, and I'm able to do that. When I turn on the DCC, it verifies I'm in the Adaptive mode. But there is no change to the video when I do this.

I've met with local engineers, but they gave up. They said it's a new function, and they have no experience with it. Then I contacted my local Sony dealer, and even they seemed to be stumped. They said they would try to find a site or someone on their staff who can explain it's use, but that was nearly 2 weeks ago.

Is there anybody using this function with good results? I'd love to hear how you are doing it.

Also I've heard there are some web sites where you can download settings that can be brought into Sony DXC cameras via memory stick for certain specific "looks." Does anyone know of any such site?

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Confusion among the many features...

Knee control is not available when DCC is on. This is correct, think about it!

Set the output to CAM/OFF (which just means camera with no DCC), then tweak the knee point and slope settings (in the paint menu) to your heart's content. You can adjust quite a bit!

I could never understand that adaptive curve in the brochure. To me it looks like a misunderstanding, because the curve makes no sense.
