e-mailing large video files

I transferred a friend's vhs tapes to mpeg files and created a dvd. Now she wants to add the files to her website. The website guy wants them in Quicktime, .mov, format. The shortest length file, 41 seconds, turns into a 1.61GB - .mov file! The longest video segment is 7 minutes long. I have no idea on how to send that over.

How can I turn my mpeg files into .mov files and e-mail them? Megaupload.com has a max file size of 500MB.

Any tips on the best way to e-mail video files to be included on a website?

I think what I would do is send her the DVD and let the website guy handle it.

ditto.

Plus you must be using a REALLY high compression settings. many sites have videos longer then that in quicktime & the files runs ~18mb per 5 minutes.

Ask him if he has a web address you can upload to. It could be either an FTP address or an HTTP address.

It all depends on the bitrate. Use a high bitrate and a short video will be a huge file. Use a low bitrate and a long video can be a small file. Just saying "MOV" doesn't tell us what bitrate you're using.

Generally, at 256Kbps you need about 2MB/minute of video. So if you want to get 41 seconds into, say, 5MB, you'd have to encode at around 930Kbps.
