Eager for feedback on this clip

Help a fellow Vegas user...

I'm going on a cruise in a few weeks and plan to put together a video slideshow that will really amaze my family and friends.

The pics and text are just placeholders now, their only purpose is to show how things will look once I have the real pics to work with.

So, please tell me how you think it looks overall- the style, the ease of viewing, etc. Please offer any suggestions, complements, criticism, etc. You guys know what works. (fyi- watching the compressed version, the carnival logo and 'right panel' text are a few pixels of where they should be- ignore this). But I do not like the way the bottom panel text comes on screen, help here especially.

It's 1 minute at 512K, so thanks for your patience and thanks for any imput. You can email me directly at: jason@gatorclaw.com

One question:
do you have the rights to the music?

Nice looking presentation.

I enjoyed how "set sail" in the song coincided with "set sail" in the caption. Luck or planning?

Regarding bringing the new text in - just try out a range of transitions and see which you prefer - don't forget to include a simple dissolve as an option.

Have a good cruise.

The design is pretty good. I found myself struggling with what to watch at the transition points..the captions or the pictures.

I think you should just dissolve on the captions or give the pic just as strong a transition.

The first thing I thought of was...I gotta get my butt to Puerto Rico. :)

So what jumps out at me...well, I like the matted picture deal. I personally think it could be a touch larger, maybe with a slightly thinner border, but it's good. You might also want to change the background every so often to reflect a certain mood, time of day, or depicted event, possibly to a looped animated event with a dissolve between repeats.

The text on the bottom, as you said, is an issue. Things that might work better could include a simple vertical roll with pause while the image is on the screen, or a dissolve in, pause with image on screen and dissolve out, or even just a cut. Respecting the matte boundaries for the text area will also give it a more polished look.

Honestly, it's far more original and fresh than anything I've come up with for a slide show. Great work!

I agree with TVCMike comments 100%.
You might want to do a few pans of the main pictures (maybe start at a closeup of somone's face on one).
As far as the music that you might not have the rights to...if this is just a in house famyl video I would do it as long as you don't mass produce it.
Technically I'm wrong however, those copyright laws were made mostly to stop underground business from profiting. It's just like the FWY speed law it's 65 but we all can drive 9 miles over the speed limit...Speed laws were made for the same purpose, to simply stop wreklace driving, ohhh and to make money for department.

Nice Video!

I Liked it...got me thinking... how do you do that incoming text strech?

thanks

The test stretch looks like a pus transition that was masked.

Nice composition.

Nice and clean. How about a slight glow that travels through the border of the matte?
I would keep it subtle so it won't distract from the other information on the screen.
As for the text along the bottom...just add a little variety so the moves aren't predictable.

I'm having trouble with the download.

When I first connect I get a prompt to say the file size is 1.6MB.
When I start to download and get the progress bar displayed, it says the file size is 3.07 MB but then it bombs out at 245 kb.

I have tried several times and get exactly the same results.

Jessariah:

No capice. Sorry I haven't mastered all the terms yet. I know what a transition is and what's a mask, but it doesn't register how it can be done.

Do I still have hope?

Thanks

Thanks so much for all the thoughts on my clip. Got some reasurance that it's actually pretty good, but some great tips too.

I am definitely changing the transition of the text, but for those of you with that burning question as to which transition it is... it's simply the default 'squeeze in right/left'... nothing special.
