forgive me if this is rough as I don't have Vegas Open now:
create two video tracks, line up both clips on separate
tracks. Use the pan crop feature to crop one to fill only
the left side and the other to fill only the right. that
should work.

Any certain method on how to get a video clip to just fill
the left side or just fill the right side? (I just started
using vegas video, don't really know my stuff with it yet)

What I mean is I can get it to split the video, but for
some reason can't figure out how to get the whole thing of
a video to be in the left side. Would I have to resize the
video clips to something such as 360x480 and then put one
on the left and one on the right?

If you want the whole image from both shots, you'd need to
use track motion. You'll wind up with a letterbox look
(unless you render to some wide aspect, like a multiple of
1440x480, which isn't appropriate for TV but might be ok
for streaming formats).

If you want half of each frame you could use crop and track
motion in combination - that will allow you to fill the
left or right half of the screen with the desired portions
of the scenes showing
