Easy for you, difficult for me #2

Hello All,

I think this may have been up over the last 2 years but I can't find it again, so sorry.

Because of my low power cpu I need to do a lot of sub-renders of small portions and then import them back into the project as .avi files. I constantly run into the same problem. When, for example, I am creating a text effect, the track background looks black but is really alpha and everything below shows through as I want. However, when I render this portion of the project and import it back as an avi, the track background is always black and I have lost the alpha transparency. I know I can use chromakey to remove the black but this is not always properly effective, especially when there's black in the video.

How can I render to avi and retain the alpha channel? I know this should be easy but I can't find out how.

I am using Vegas 4.0d.

Regards,
Neil Porter

You probably won't like the answer: You have to render to UNCOMPRESSED and have the "Include Alpha Channel" box checked. The bad news is that these files are very large and you'll have to render back to DV-AVI to do the PTT.

You're right! However, I'll give it a go and see what happens. In any case, after I've rendered the final project I delete all the smaller avis that I have had to use and only keep the original footage and the final render.

Thanks.
