Easy import & edit AC3 in Vegas

Tip of the day:

In answering a question in another thread, I realized that there is a really simple workflow for importing AC-3 files directly into Vegas, without any video, and without external tools. It does require DVD Architect.

1. Open DVDA.
2. Drop the AC-3 file directly on the main menu of a new project.
3. Immediately prepare the project. Since there is no video, the project should prepare in just a few seconds.
4. Go to the prepare folder, and in the VIDEO_TS folder, find the VTS_01_0.VOB file and drop that onto the Vegas timeline. Ignore or delete the video track that gets created.

Voilà !

Okay.... but how do you import a VOB? Tried dropping it on the time line... won't go (I'm using 7d)

Only tried it once so far, but changing the extension from .vob to .mpg worked fine...

Yup.... That works! The AC3 is there and in good order!

Strange. I have 7.0d, and I drop the VOB on the timeline without the extension change, and it works. Must have something to do with preferences, either in Vegas, or in the Windows registry somewhere.

Glad it only takes the rename to work.

John, great tip! Now, under what circumstances would I do this?

Wow, very cool. If opening a 5.1 file, it creates the tracks and pans appropriately!
