I've been waiting for a thing like this for years, but with XLR inputs.

I just don't understand how come no company has done a small portable recording device that records on flash and features 2 xlr inputs with preamps. That would sell a lot.

Actually, there are quite a few professional portable recorders that record on flash memory and have XLR inputs. Here's one:

Marantz 670

Here's another:

Fostex FR-2

Sure looking forward to when video cameras record on huge memory cards. When your done, pull the card out of the camera and plug it into the card reader in the front of your computer....Hoo Ahh.....and your editing !

Yes I know you can record video on most newer digital still cameras but you know what I talkin bout....

It's out there already, Panasonic make just the camera but you really don't want to know how much memory you need now do you?
OK, you want to know, then you don't want to know how much it's going to cost now do you?

Oh you do you sir, then please step this way, sign the NDA and then with paramedic nearby we'll tell you.

Well that was how it went with Panasonic at IBC.

Oddly enough the DVX100 which took the world by storm, half the sales reps didn't even know about it, bit like the average Sony rep and Vegas :)

I wish it did 24bit/ 48khz and I wonder if you can use larger CF cards 4 gig to give you 3-4 hours.

check out www.core-sound.com for another really cool portable digital sound recorder that does 24/96 etc ... and i think you can get XLR inputs on the mic pre map module.

cheers

Here is the response from Edirol when I emailed them asking if the R-1 recorder would take 4GB CompactFlash cards:

"We haven't yet tested a 4GB card with the R-1. It's a bit academic at this
point as they are currently the same price as the R-1. There is no file
system size restriction that would keep the R-1 from recognizing a 4GB Flash
Card, so we presume that we will have successful tests. But as I said,
currently, it is untested.
I hope this is helpful.
