Rotate it either with Pan/Crop box or Track Motion.

Pan/crop didn't work. All I got was small square part of the video. Even though I had changed the project properties to 1080x1920, the pan/crop area was still 1920x1080. When I rotated the clip to the right, it would show up in the preview as rotated to the left.

Track Motion kind of worked, but the clip did not auto fit. Didn't find that easy to use at all and the results looked fuzzy.

In the timeline right-click the video event, select "Properties/Media" and for "Rotation" select the appropriate angle.

Thanks that worked and that also works in the media bin before adding the clip to the timeline.

VMS doesn't seem to be aimed at phone video. Just took long to figure it out and nothing in the Help. I even had to create a custom vertical output profile.

You need to resize the box to get the full image. But anyway Marco's solution is best. I knew there was an easy way somewhere but couldn't recall it! Thanks Marco. As you say there's nothing in Help and this applies to other problems one encounters.
