Editing a small piece of audio on a track

I don't know if i am in the right place with this question, but i will give it a shot and see. I have this entire clip on my timeline, at the end of the clip i want to mute the last 10 secs or so of the audio while the video still plays. I don't see anything that allows me to do that, can someone offer some guidance on how to go about doing this.

Hi John,

You might try making a "split edit" or "j-cut" by dragging the end of the audio earlier than the video (you might use the "ignore event grouping" button on the toolbar to make the j-cut). You can also fade the audio by dragging the corner of the audio event.

What about a volume envelope????? You seem to have hit all the rest of the options.

jetdv: right on! That's what I'd do cause I like to use those envelopes. Once layed over the track, you can "fine tune" the whole sound track afterwhile...

You can use the fade out feature make a long slow fade.

I ended up making a copy of the audio track, then i muted my master track, and i cut off the end of the audio track. I have to learn this program more, but i only use it once in a while, that makes it hard to know most of the features.

Just right click on the sound track in the timeline, choose sound envelope/volume. A blue line will appear on the track. You then place the pointer on this line, right click an choose "add point"; now do it a second time (add another point). Place the first point where you want the fade to begin by placing the pointer on this point, left-clicking and holding while dragging the point where you want, making sure you place it vertically at 0,0dB (normal volume). The second point: you do the same but drag it down vertically to - "x"% of what you want (here:completely down). You now got your fade out. You can place the pointer, again, on the descending curve and right click to choose the type of curve you want for your fade out.
You can add as many points as you want along the timeline to lower/upgrade the volume.
Hope this helps. And I'm telling you, it's a lot longer to read the "how to" than actually doing it.
