Editing Audio

I apologize if this is something already covered, but I can't see it mentioned in older postings.

Right-clicking on an audio track and selecting "Open in audio editor" will result in whatever editor you've specified in Preferences being opened. But then it gets difficult.

I first chose Acid Music as the sound editor, thinking that they'd be compatible. The problem here comes when you want to save the edited file - the only option is to "Render" it, which includes the video - and I don't want to do that because it takes too long and risks a deterioration in video quality.

Cool Edit has been suggested elsewhere on this forum, but the problem here is opening the sound file - two very obscure dialog boxes come up one after the other (I'm trying to edit the sound part of an avi file, by the way) and none of the options seem to produce a file that contains anything other than white noise.

Goldwave successfully opens the file, but wants to save it as a wav, which is then hopelessly unsynchronised with the original video.

Is it this tough for everyone? Any help much appreciated.

Sound Forge (or the XP version) would be the best choice. Do you by any chance happen to have this installed? It works just about seemlessly with other Sonic Foundry products (go figger).

What sort of audio editing do you need to do? We might be able to help you handle it right in Video Factory without needing another audio editor.

I am editing some video interviews. Unfortunately, I didn't mic the subjects directly and relied on my camcorder's mic.
As a result the voices are not always as clear as I'd like. I'd like to enhance the sound as much as possible, without losing sync with the images. Is Sound Forge the best bet, or are there other options?

No, I don't have Sound Forge... Do you know of any other audio editor that will achieve the same thing? It's the Open/save back to original file that's not working.

I do know about VF's rudimentary sound processing, but I don't think it's quite got the flexibilty I need,.

Thanks.
