Editing Camtasia Captures

Hi all,

I am downloading the Vegas demo as I type, but I was curious if anyone here uses Vegas to edit captures from Camtasia. In particular, I am curious whether it can input and output files using the TSCC codec. Camtasia Studio is fine for simple stuff, but it is really giving me grief on my latest project.

Thanks.

Many of us here have edited files captured by Camtasia. Seems to work fine.

mpd,

I used Vegas 5.0/Camtasia Studio for a series of software tutorials about 6 months back. The end result was outstanding but the editing/assembly phase and the playback for the web was a nightmare.

I have since turned to Macromedia Captivate for this kind of work...really blows the doors of Camtasia in terms of an app specifically designed for software tutorials. Also - it is Flash based which kicked Vegas to the curb quickly. Vegas has it's specific uses for me but I simply could not arrive at a quality vs payload ratio that would allow the high quality graphics and audio I am putting into my tutorials shine for viewing on the web. I tried every codec combo I could in Vegas and it was always a heavy compromise. Even a version of one tutorial (in Windows Media format) which I thought would play fine locally on our presidents laptop....crashed and burned at a large company meeting of ours....made me feel pretty small afterward.

With Captivate - I can easily retain super high res and the payload is very light...we haven't had a single pop or glitch reported on the last three tutorials we published on the web.

Cheers,

VP

Thanks for the responses. We use both Camtasia and Captivate for software demonstrations. Both have their strong points and weak points. I am a Flash programmer (audio is a secondary task for me), so I prefer using Captivate, but this is one of those cases where Camtasia is really the right tool for the captures. Editing this batch of captures is turning out to be a real bear, though. I think I may have to make my boss order Vegas...
